Police say, upon arrival they found a dead man at the northbound Courtland Avenue ramp to Highway 7 eastbound.

“The body has been taken to the Centre for Forensic Pathology, where a postmortem examination will be done. At which point we will be able to confirm this person’s identity and also their cause of death as well,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told Global News.

Highway 7/8 eastbound was closed at Homer Watson Boulevard Tuesday morning for an investigation, provincial police said on Twitter. The on-ramp from Courtland Avenue was also closed.

“The investigation obviously is in its infancy stages here right now as we look for clues,” Schmidt said.

Waterloo Regional Police say they were called to the scene at 2 a.m. to assist the OPP with traffic duty.

A spokesperson for Waterloo police said that their major crimes unit is on hand assisting the OPP with their investigation.

Schmidt says police are looking to see if a car fire on nearby Connaught Street is connected with the incident.

Waterloo police say they were called to the area for the report of a car fire at around 4:30 a.m.

”We are aware that there was a vehicle fire located nearby,” Schmidt said. “No verification whether or not those are connected at all in this situation. But that is still part of the ongoing investigation.

“We’re going to follow the clues where they lead us.”
