About The Atmosphere Soup Kitchen
Atmosphere Soup Kitchen (ASK) opened in 2011 in Dumaguete, Philippines. It provides 80 children with a balanced lunch, 5 days a week, year-round. The children are from one of the most impoverished areas in Dumaguete. The families subsist on recycling and reselling waste from a nearby waste disposal facility. The aim is direct and simple: Provide one nutritional balanced meal per day to school children between the ages of 6-12 so they can stay in school and to help better their lives living in the dump site. The success of the program is owed to the mothers of the children who volunteer and run the program.
About Hope Story
Hope Story partners with local communities to ensure that their children’s basic needs are met. They believe that the needs of a child are complex. Therefore, they strive to work as holistically as possible to provide basic care. Not just addressing physical needs but emotional, psychological, sociological, and spiritual needs as well.
Quality schooling is more than reading, writing, and math. It is an escape hatch from poverty. It is opportunity.
That’s why Hope Story supports homework clubs and after school programs. It’s why they cover the steep cost of primary and secondary school – even when this means establishing a school where none existed before. And it’s why they’ve established a scholarship fund to allow students to attend community college, trade school, or university.
